    70% Water/ 30% Coolant - thoughts

Buried deep within the factory repair manual it is stated that you can run up to 70% water and 30% anti-freeze assuming you will never see freezing temps.

Since water has a higher thermal capacity than ''anti-freeze'', this should help transfer heat away from the cylinder more efficiently.

I have been using this 70/30 mix (using de-ionized water) and am curious what you guys think?

    Some cool links, pun intended:

Pages 14-6, 14-7 of the factory service manual:

    CAUTION
 Do not use alcohol or methanol anti-freeze or any
engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanol
anti-freeze. The use of an improper anti-freeze can
cause corrosion of the aluminum components.
 Use the MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG
LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM without adding water
because the concentration is preadjusted to 50%.
    8. Use special tool LLC changer (MB991871) to refill the
engine coolant up to the top of the radiator port.
    Recommended antifreeze: MITSUBISHI MOTORS
GENUINE SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM
    or equivalent*
NOTE: *similar high quality ethylene glycol based
    non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrate and
non-borate coolant with long life hybrid organic
    acid technology

    ENGINE COOLANT CONCENTRATION CHECK
    M1141001101601
    CAUTION
 Engine coolant of less than 30% concentration has a
less rust-proof effect. In a concentration of over 60%,
the antifreeze effect and engine cooling performance of
the engine coolant are deteriorated, causing a detri-
mental effect on the engine. Therefore, observe the ser-
    vice concentration range without fail.
 Use the MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG
LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM without adding water
because the concentration is preadjusted to 50%.

    Basically don’t do it

I wouldn't try mixing coolant that way unless I lived south enough that I didn't see snow anymore. Try that here and you'll be buying a new engine block, rad, heater core, cvt cooler, etc.... The coolant I put in the Mirage's is already pre mixed(Beck/Arnley)
    I couldn't even find coolant that's compatible that isn't premixed 50-50.

Hm. Diluting antifreeze is a tricky situation.

Beyond that, let's say you want to travel - maybe visit family up north. Heck, even head to the California mountains. One night below freezing would negate any perceived benefits.
