I agree with everyone else. That is a serious hit. Swap it out.

After seeing the picture I'd just change it.

"Not sure if this means anything. Are you able to monitor your engine coolant temperature?"

Yes, this was my concern since the fan seems to be running more and at higher speeds.

"This is common when operating in colder temperatures such as what we are currently experiencing."

Yeah, its been in the high 30s and mid 40s at night lately in socal

Yes, you should be concerned. As inuvik has already mentioned, that is close to your oil pump draw tube. Damage to that draw tube can impair the oil pump's ability to move oil to where it needs to go.

    I'll change it this weekend

If you have the money and time, it would be wise to replace the pan and inspect the oil pump.

    Just my 2¢ worth.

I have no problem changing it. But did talk to the dealer and he said if no codes or leaks I should be fine. That is why I asked here. I will change it this weekend.

Nice. Let us know how it goes. And good luck, but I don't think you'll need it. It seems the work should be pretty straightforward.

Now's a good time to put up some pictures of your Mirage. Would be especially nice to see some for your garage entry for your 2017.

I forget - what happened to your 2014 Mirage?

The 14 DE was replaced by the 15 Lancer SE since it had 94k. Then got a Versa S and did not liked it being way too barebones. Got 2 Toyota iAs and the wife's got rear ended on the 3rd day of ownership, then mine had manual transmission issues. Wife's got paid off, mine was traded in for the current 17 Mirage G4 ES. Really considering trading in the Lancer S for a 17 Prius Two because all the discount in SoCal and will hand off the Mirage G4 to the wife.

    BAD NEWS!

Took it to the dealer and they inspected it. They said the oil pan is the least of my concern. The whole lower passenger chin is pushed in. From the looks of it 1-3 inches. The radiator is leaking, the oil pan is dented but ok to function, the return hose to the ac condenser needs to be changed. Dealer said they can't fix it and referred me to an auto body shop they work with. The parts are insanely expensive and decided to open a claim with the insurance since it might be 4-5k from what can be seen. I am shocked how much damage it is after seeing it in the air!

Wow! Actually not surprised since a metal paint can has a surprising amount of rigidity and hitting it at freeway speeds is a whole bunch of force. Does answer your question why your radiator fan was running more— due to the coolant leakage. I bet it made a heck of a noise when you hit it.

Actually after thinking harder I think it was not a paint can, but one of those triangle stops for the wheels. There was no noise, more of a hop over it!

Oh snap! That’s usually a solid block of aluminum. Actually lucky it didn’t punch a hole in the engine block!
