It goes out when there is sufficient coolant temp.
Does it come on if the car overheats? Is it a different color if that happens?

It will turn red at some unknown 'too high' temperature. I don't know that anyone has tested it yet.

Thanks Daox, somewhere I read the temp can hit 250F and still be OK. Kinda scary that it will only go red if it gets hotter than that.
