    Flickering electrical system voltage issues?

It looks like what I was told in electrical diagnosing of GM cars to be a diode in the alternator failing causing the entire electrical system to flicker at idle sometimes. I took a video of it, it goes away if you rev the engine or change the electrical load.

    1. Is your motor up to temperature or is this a cold start? The PTC heaters draw a considerable amount of power.
    2. How old is your battery? It might be aging out and cold outdoor temperatures will make this worse.

Battery is 1 1/2 years old or so upgraded to a 600+ cca. Engine at full operating temp.

It was replaced 7-11-2016 with a 725cca battery that's still under warranty. I'll exchange it when it warms up a bit.

Have you checked the battery connections? If the nuts are somewhat loose, it can cause also flickering .. had an experience w/ it.

First thing I would do is hook a multimeter up to the battery terminals when the engine is idling. See what kind of voltage you get.

Yes.. additionally you may want to test the voltage drop across the battery post and the battery cable lug terminal.

Battery cables are tight. My volt meter is in my garage about 4 hours away, might stop by harbor freight tomorrow and grab one. It doesn't do this all the time just randomly. Car starts up ice cold with headlights on easily.

Get one of this when you stop a HF, make sure the batt. terminals are completely clean no corrosion at all. Also make sure the

connector at the alternator is also free of corrosion. https://www.harborfreight.com/batter...ner-94450.html
