What's the longest you've owned a car? How long do you plan to keep your Mirage?

The black car in my avatar is a '98 Pontiac Firefly (Canadian market Chevy Metro clone). 1.0L, 3-cyl, 5-speed. (The Mirage is a 2014 base model that Mitsubishi loaned me to test drive.)

I've had the Firefly since 2005, so that's coming up on 13 years.

I don't generally drive a lot, and it's rarely seen winter, so there's a LOT of life left in it -- it's only got ~42k kms on it now (~26k mi).

My plan had been to keep it forever... or at least that was the plan until last week when I realized used Mirages are getting into my price range. I will admit that caused me to question the logic of keeping the Firefly forever (as well as its stunt double, a 2000 Metro which is my current winter beater).

Prior to the Firefly, the longest I'd kept a car was 4 or 5 years.

    That's approaching 30 years.

I have an F150 going on 13 years. My Mirage is 2014 with <17,000 miles - I will keep driving it until it costs more to keep than it costs to buy another one.
