Thread: GM may exit Korea = killing off the Spark? Rumour = Sonic dead too.

According to one of the articles, some of the other models are currently built in GM's plants in China, so they could just bring them over from there if they close down the Korean factories.

    Ha! Learned something new today.

It's fuel economy still falls short...

Yeah, the Cruze was sold as the Daewoo Lacetti in some markets.

As cars, especially compact cars, become less important to the North American market, I'm sure you'll see the number of available models reduced. Only to be replaced by subcompact CUV's.

    Report: Sonic dead too

Also a GM+Daewoo-designed car, but this one's built in the States as well as Korea...

Sources familiar with GM’s product plans tell the publication the subcompact Chevrolet Sonic hatchback and sedan might be killed off as early as this year.

Looks like its not only GM. Hang in there, Mirage! You may be the winner by attrition! Ford ending Fiesta and Taurus.

"The End For The Chevy Spark Is Nigh"

SEOUL -- General Motors' South Korean unit said on Monday it may discontinue its Spark minicar and replace it with a crossover as demand in the United States falls.

Sales for the Spark slumped 36 percent to 22,589 units in the U.S. last year.
This is the same strategy Ford is using: it has dropped the Fiesta in the U.S. in favour of the EcoSport subcompact rollover... I mean crossover.

But the replacement Spark sized crossover wouldn't appear until 2022, according to the article:
