    This is nuts!

I am rewarded to drive the high occupancy lanes when I have a passenger or two because I'm keeping other cars off the road. Will the new tax plan reward me for having passengers thereby keeping road wear down? It appears the answer to that is a big NO.

Another half baked government scheme to empty your wallet.

The main issue with the new tax changes is electric vehicles. They don't know how to tax them yet. They use the road, but they pay basically no tax. The per mile thing makes some sense with regard to EVs. However, it does not seem to work well for fuel efficient traditional vehicles.

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

All they need to do is add a surcharge to EVs when they renew their tabs every year. Believe me, Washington LOVES adding fees to tab renewals.

I heard they added a large amount on the tabs based on cost of the vehicle. But I was paying close to my Corolla which was like $22k but my Mirage was $14k....

The stickers up in the righthand corner on Washington license plates. You have to pay fees to the government to renew them every year in order to drive your car on the roads.

We also have that in Ohio. I've never called them Tabs though - we call them registration stickers.

Lern something new every day - so I can wrap up my day & head home.

Okay here is my update ... would be more dramatic if I was doing better than 35/Gal. Basically continue to track a big gap between what I would pay in the per mile world versus with the gas tax.

and here is my driving 'rating'. This is not being used against me yet, but interesting to see the 'potential' of this new tax system. The whole speed thing is I believe any speed above the limit, and I think the cornering is not anything thing too dramatic. I am NOT a very aggressive driver by any means....
