Roof rack. Who's got one and what do ya have?

So I am thinking of getting a roof rack. The install looks plenty easy, must just pop those black strips out?

Does Mitsu still make one compatible with a 2017?

And can you then pretty much put any basket or bike carrier up There?

    Thanks

Basically. There are about two types of racks, euro square bar and Aero bar. Both will fit fine with any attachments.

I have the Rhino Rack Euro bar which is going for $296 right now. https://www.cargogear.com/MakeModel/Mitsubishi/Mirage

Any previous year rack should fit. There isn't many differences in dimension of the Mirage.

So euro square vs aero is just the bar design? Seems square is cheaper. Don't think shape matters does it?

The one for 296 is what I saw on another site too. Seems like the best deal.
Those thules are expensive. Name alone I suppose??

It says they have locks but how do they work? Are they secure or coukd they be stolen?

Its secure. It comes with two keys for the door attachments.

The genuine one is $416... https://smile.amazon.com/GENUINE-MITSUBISHI-MIRAGE-CARRIER-MZ314660/dp/B00FGYSXWC/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1519244431&sr=8-20&keywords=mitsubishi+mirage+roof+rack

Looks like they dont make the genuine one anymore

So does the car need to be modified to attach them?
I saw a YouTube video showing the installer cutting the stock drip trim pieces and drilling holes in the roof!!!!

What's Involved in doing the install? Thanks for the help btw

Drilling holes in the roof? it just goes in the door with a rubber hook...All you need to do is measure where the bar needs to connect to the attachments.

Yeah the one random video I watched from rhino rack had the installer cutting a chunk out of that plastic rail and doing some shallow holes into the roof to bolt those feet down. They didn't use any locking straps attached to the door edges.
But I like the idea of NOT cutting or drilling so I would go with the style you have.
So is it secure? When you open the doors doesn't it get loose?

Edit. Okay I get it now looking at your close up pics. It must ratchet together basically trying to pull each claw inward making the whole set up tight then it locks in that position right? Like a steering wheel lock but in instead of pushing out on the wheel before locking.

I've had mine on for about two years and it has never loosened up. I also have a basket rack and put heavy Costco boxes/packages on there. The door holds it in enough. Drilling it is a custom mod.
