Why are Mitsubishi mirage parts absurdly expensive at local retailers?

Ive got a 2015 mirage es, and have just changed the maf sensor, and pcv valve. Looking to do the O2 sensors next but I'm seeing prices of around $300 each online. This is just absurd. Furthermore, I found a pcv valve online for $30 but at all the local parts stores the prices were $100-$200. What is going on with the parts for this vehicle? How did a cheap car end up with such a problem as this? There are a lot of these cars on the road, so I'm fairly sure parts should be easy to get.

Hello davictor685 and welcome to the forum.

This has been a big drawback for these little cars. And though they have been imported into North America for ten years now, the sales numbers have always been low.

The good news is they don't usually need many parts replaced. I'm a little surprised you have to replace the parts you've listed. Are you having any problems with yours?

I was getting P0171, and the pcv valve did fix it. I just thought maybe I should replace the other sensors is all. I might hold off until I see a good deal pop up.

I wouldn't change anything that doesn't need changing. The original item may still outlast the aftermarket item.

Sometimes you can find good prices on OEM Mitsubishi parts from overseas dealers on eBay. I've bought a few OEM parts for close to half of what they list for at US dealers. You just have to plan ahead...because they might be coming from the Middle East or something and may take a week or two to get to the US.

Great suggestion Top Fuel! But in all honesty, we shouldn't have to do that.

Is Mitsubishi worse than other brands? It's been a long time since I have bought a part from a dealership. I honestly don't know?

I don't know if Mitsubishi's part prices are worse than most other brands, but know of a few brands that seem just as bad.

For my part, I thoroughly research what part can be obtained from where. Many engine parts are in common with some SMART, for example.
Usually I get parts through Yeepay or elsewhere online, but I buy them only from well-reputed makers! These days most key parts, such as sensors, brakes, drivechain bits, come from specialised companies that supply to almost all car makers. Why not buy from there offerings instead of buying at red-light brothel prices from Mitsubishi? If Mitsubishi is so terribly expensive, it definitely makes sense to buy elsewhere.

Could be worse, price out a rear door for a Nissan NV200.
