Thread: Accident

    Late to the conversation...

Palebeachbum: that sucks!!! Sorry to see it looks like your Mirage will be gone.

I'm no lawyer (but there are some in the family!), but standard advice is don't sign anything saying "you're OK", physically. After-effects can be long-lasting.

In the UK all phones are seized at an accident site and analyzed. If any party was either texting, surfing or talking without hands free then plod drops 5 points on them at a minimum for driving while distracted all the way up to careless driving or reckless endangerment. You better not have an accident in the UK while you're di*king around with your phone.

Progressive sent a tow Saturday to take Kermit to their repair facility for tear down inspection. I haven't heard anything back yet. I sent the adjuster pics. He said based on what he sees in the pics and his experience, it'll get repaired. I'll keep you guys updated.

There's a Mitsu dealership 3 miles from my house. For the heck of it, I checked out the nee Eclipse Cross and Outlander. The Eclipse Cross LOOKS SO GOOD. Very sharp inside and out. It looks and feels the same size as the Outlander Sport (RVR/ASX for my global friends). It had 2 glaring design flaws. The side of the console is angled toward the drivers right knee. I'm only 5'7 and I kept banging my right knee on the hard silver painted plastic. The other issue is that there is NO volume knob for the stereo. You have to use a track pad like what you find on a laptop. It's not on my shopping list for those and other reasons. I didnt even bother test driving it. I did test drive a base model Outlander ES. I was VERY impressed. It felt rock solid. The seat was very comfy. The ride was Cadillac smooth. Extremely quiet at interstate speed. The 2.4L had plenty of get-up-and-go power. Loved it! I keep reading online that the paint is defective though, so I may default to an Outlander Sport.

Here's an update, folks. Progressive called last night. Kermit is dead. They deemed it a loss. They offered $7,000. I think that's very fair! No way would I get that much had the accident not occurred and I traded it in later this year as planned. I'm satisfied. Sad to see Kermit go though. I really liked that little car. It's funny how many friends and family liked it too for it's lime green color and quirky, unique character.

I'm currently borrowing a family member's spare vehicle indefinitely, I will be looking to get my own vehicle later this year. Currently working on buying a house, so I need to wait. I'll likely get the Outlander Sport or Outlander (the paint issue scares me), but I won't lie, part of me wants to get a new Mirage!

Sorry to hear they're totaling it. But, that is definitely a good price they're giving you.

Since you have time, I'd recommend watching craiglist, autotrader, and cars.com for deals on used Mirages. If you can wait, you can find a screaming deal and even likely come out ahead on it. You can setup alerts so they email you even. This is what I did to find my 2014 Mirage for $3500.

How's your neck? That was a pretty hard hit to right off your car like that and worse for the car behind you. Are they just paying for your car and that's it? You must have a hard time coping but maybe a nice down payment on a house might help with that?

With the way Mirage sales have been trending in the U.S. in the past several months, I'd also expect some serious discounts on leftover '17's to be coming up.

I like Daox's idea as well. If you have time to wait, you can find some great used deals and come out ahead.

    Hope your neck/back is fine!

I guess I got lucky because I have absolutely no pain related to the accident and it's been 2wks now. Thank goodness! The Mirage seat apparently did a commendable job supporting my body and head. Had I been the one to receive the direct impact though, I likely would have had to go to hospital, judging by how badly crushed the rear was of the Ford Fusion behind me. No doubt my back seat would have been obliterated. One less headache to deal with right now.

The fact these cars keep getting written off with minor to moderate hits is probably why Progressive charges so much more for them. I was at that point of buying and was comparing insurance rates for the Mirage and the Spark. The Spark was $250 per 6 months cheaper then the Mirage. That difference almost pushed me to bite for the Spark, but at last minute I decided to just keep what I have for now.
