    Unhappy Accident

Well folks, I was rear ended last night on my way home. I was stopped in traffic. A car was stopped behind me. A full-size pickup truck didn't stop, plowed into the old couple in the car behind me and they were shoved into my rear end. I suspect it will be a total loss, but we shall see. The damage is worse than the pics show. The rear doors don't open and close properly, as the rear fenders seem bent in toward the doors a bit. If it's a loss, I'm probably moving up to a Mitsubishi Outlander or Outlander Sport. Sorry some of the pics are sideways. Not sure how to fix that.

Overall, I'm fine. Just a sore neck and left knee.

I forgot to mention some interesting things. The car was still running after the impact. So I put it in park and shut it off. when the police arrived, they asked Me to drive my car to the shoulder. Typical starting procedure, I put my foot on the brake and noticed it was hard as a rock. There was no pedal travel at all. I press the ignition button And the ignition turned on, but the car would not start. The engine wouldn't even turn over. Nothing. All the warning lights and gauges were illuminated. I told the cop I couldn't start it. About 15 minutes later I attempted to start it again to move it and it started right up. I have no idea why it didn't start earlier.

Ouch. You have a 2014, right? I think you'd better start shopping for that new Outlander. It's hard not to see thousands of dollars of damage there if the rear quarters are bent. You may want to start doing your homework on the value of your Mirage before the other guy's insurance company tries to lowball you if/when they total your car.

Yes it's a 2014. I looked up the values on Kelley Blue Book. Trade-in value is about $4,000 and Private party value is about $6,300. I'm not sure what the insurance company uses to assess value though. My mom has a 2015 Outlander Sport that I've driven a bunch of times. I like it quite a bit. I want to test drive a larger Outlander too. I prefer its styling and larger cargo area. I'll keep you all posted. There's a dealership offering either model in SE trim for between $17,000 and $20,000 depending on color and accessories. Seems like a great deal.

Glad you’re ok and at least this will be a no brainer who’s at fault. Did the pickup driver say why he didn’t stop? Alcohol, texting?

Glad you're ok. Sorry about the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

His excuse was "I didnt see them cuz their car is black." Yes, that was his excuse. So, he was probably playing with his phone.
