Image: Philippine President and Mitsubishi execs celebrate the start of local Mirage production. More info.

Mitsubishi and the Mirage in particular have done very well in the Philippines. The company is second for market share (behind Toyota), and local assembly of the G4 sedan and hatchback began last year, while the rest of the world gets their Mirages from the main factory in Thailand
    .

This post is a work in progress... sales numbers are a little harder to find for PH...

    2013

Hatchback: 7,816 est, based on 651 cars/mo avg Jan-Sep; (source says lower, but seems wrong based on other info)

Note: "TOP FIVE CARS BASED ON SALES (JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 2013): Mirage #5 - 5,862)" (source)

March 2014: "Mirage is the 2013 bestselling hatchback in PH; Mitsubishi Motors Thailand achieves 200,000 units Mirage production milestone" (source)

    2014

Hatchback: 4,468 est. (based on first half of year)
    G4 sedan: ?

Note: Figure for first half of year; "The Mirage may have fallen a few notches" since 2013 (but I didn't find 2013 numbers , source)

    2015

Hatchback: 5,668 est. (based on first half of year)
G4 sedan: 9,346 est. (based on first half of year)

Notes: "For the first half of the year, MMPC sold 4,673 units of Mirage G4 sedan, 2,834 units of Mirage" (source)

    2016

    Hatchback: ?
    G4 sedan: 12,880 (source)

Notes: "the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 takes seventh place" in the top 10 selling vehicles. "These figures also reflects the Philippines' preference for sedans over hatchbacks."

    2017

    Hatchback: ?
    G4 sedan: 12,987 (source)

Notes: "The Mirage G4 was in 11th, with 170 less than" 10th place, according to the author in the comments.

No kidding. PH loves the Mirage: car of the year when it was new, perennial top-10 seller, and now local assembly.

What's amazing is the ratio of G4 to hatch sales. Look at 2015: 5.7k hatches vs. 9.3k sedans. Compare to the U.S. at 16.4k hatches vs 6k sedans.

I would have bought a sedan if sedans where available on the 2015.

But in retrospect the hatchback is a more practical option, I can carry home large lumber pieces and drywall sticking out of the back of the hatchback at Home Depot. The sedan would not offer as much room sticking out of the trunk.

The hatchback is like a miniature SUV
