    US$ 9.51 - $10.15 per gallon!

Here in Europe gas prices have stabilised and our CO2 footprint has already decreased more than 40% and will decrease to zero by 2050. We have plenty of homework ahead of us, but a few others haven't even started and are due to a price-shock sometime later. The following picture was taken yesterday.
Since CO2 tax is going up four-fold and mineral-oil tax may even be doubled within the next four years, we will then have to consider this offer as absolutely dirt cheap!

    € 1.829 per litre x 4.3 x 1.21 exchange rate = US $ 9.51 per gallon for normal fuel

    €1.949 x 4.3 x 1.21 = $ 10.15 for "supreme" quality

Btw, my electricity bill says 27 Euro cents (32.7 cent US) per every single kW/h, whereby 18 cents of that bill is compulsory surcharges and subsidies of various sorts for the grid, non-fossil energy, such as wind, hydro, photovoltaic, etc etc.

Raising carbon- and/or gasoline-taxes in North America won't be popular, but it would sure have an impact on carbon emissions without a doubt. It may be the only simple and effective way to curb carbon emissions.

It wasn't popular here either, but common sense has set in and most folks don't think the current anti carbon measures are anywhere near tough enough.

At $9.51/gallon, how much of that amount is the taxes?

Federal gas tax in the States is 18.4 cents/gallon (since 1993) & diesel is 24.4 cents/gallon.

Average state gas tax is 30.6 cents.

I bought gas (10% ethanol) yesterday, & I paid $2.779/gallon. $0.513/gallon of that would have been federal/Wisconsin state taxes.

When you pay 1.829/liter for gas, what amount of that is tax?

I paid $2.779/gallon yesterday for gas. $0.513/$2.779 = approximately 18% of my fuel costs are taxes.

When gas was $1.89/gallon a number of months ago, my tax on it didn't change. $0.513/$1.89 = approximately 27% of fuel costs are taxes. Federal tax on gas hasn't changed since 1993.

I think what Foama is trying to say is, the way out of a global warming and a habit of burning fossil fuels is, you don't make the cigarettes any cheaper for the smoker. But Foama you also gotta get into the mindset or mentality difference between gasoline here and in Europe. Wild West eyeglasses on this issue. I think people associate any attack on an industry like coal and oil, and asbestos mining in the old days. As an attack on your average joe worker's honesty and dignity, trying to make a living, even in a now-decrepit industry.

There will always be the luddites , typewriter is invented and scribner's or writers out of a job. Same with the cotton jinny and the same with oil and gas. More of Germany has woken up and smelt the coffee. But why does Germany still burn so much coal?

Gas here is around $1.20/L . There's a good chunk of tax included in that.
If my math is right that's about $1usd/L so $3.78(usd)/us gallon.
    It is what it is.

I can't wait to hop in my diesel truck (pre-emissions), hook onto my 15,000lb camper and drag it 4hrs into the bush getting 10mpg. Then fire up a few 2 stroke chain saws to cut some dead trees to burn at night. Then wake up in the morning, push a button to fire up the 6500watt generator so I can run the coffee maker(and ice maker because why not?). Then hop in the 5 seat side by side and burn about 20L/100km driving around looking for bears and samsquenches. The side by side has a catylitic converter in it(for now) so I feel like I'm doing my part for the environments or something?

A special thanks from me to you in Germany for doing your part to make up for all the carbon footprint I'm leaving behind
Now who's gonna deal with China?

I'll begin the thread lock countdown.....................

Gas is 10c higher in southern Ontario. Port Huron Michigan is usually about 20% less, metro Detroit I've seen as low as $2.10 a gallon. Not sure the prices these days.

My town has what I think is free electric charging stations at the arena. If I can get a used Volt for like $2,000, and not have to pay for gas for my 15 minute commute, seems like the cheapest possible option on paper.

    Have you seen a bigfoot?
