Mirage vs competitors MPG chart (US EPA ratings)

    Mirage vs competitors MPG chart

I thought it would be nice to have a full comparison of the fuel economy ratings of the Mirage versus its competitors in one chart. All the ratings are from http://www.fueleconomy.gov/.

The chart is sorted by the combined rating for the CVT transmission, if there is no CVT the automatic rating was used. Of interesting note, this shows the Fiat 500 as the lowest on the chart, but if it were sorted by manual transmission it would be #2.

the scion in the US does not get the 3cyl but the 4cyl right?
wonder what the 3cly would do

    According to fuelly...

The Prius C owners are averaging 50.9 mpg.

The Mirage owners are averaging 42.3 mpg.

So, the Mirage owners are a bit more above the EPAs rating, but both are pretty close.

Spacester: you're right. Only the 4-cylinder engine in the Toyota/Scion iQ in Canada/U.S.

Just for fun, I added the fuel economy for the first & last years (1995 & 2000) of the Chevrolet/Geo Metro 1.0L, 5-speed.

Because a few people in North America will be comparing the cars.

One odd thing... This is getting off-topic, but in the last 3 years of sales of the final generation Metro 1.0 5-speed, the EPA rating went down in each category, each year:

    2000: 32/36/41
    1999: 34/37/42
    1998: 36/40/44
    1997: 37/40/44
    1996: 37/40/44
    1995: 37/40/44

As far as I know, the drivetrain did not change at all between years.

Update: I added a second table to post#1 that shows the cars ranked by manual transmission.

Even though I am still disappointed Mitsu doesn't offer a more fuel efficient gearing option with the manual, it's still the most economical manual car you can buy in North America, based on the "combined" rating.

Not on the list, but it even beats the 6-speed Honda CR-Z Hybrid, which is rated 31/34/38

Thanks for the update Darin. That does change the chart quite a bit.

I still don't know why Honda gave it that stupid name. It is way closer in concept and execution to the OG Insight than the current car bearing its name.

They should have called that sedan thing the 'Civic Eco' like they do with the Accord CrossTour. /ramble

And holy crap, Nariko is responsible for dragging down the MPG for US owners. Man, I really need to ease off the loud pedal! (if that's possible, of course )

I don't really think lumping in the Insight-RZ and iQ is apples-to-apples though, the Mirage is worlds more practical and can actually be used as a single-car-family car. :P
