    2018 Oil Change

It's that time of year - time for my Spring oil change. I'm interested in seeing what other forum members are using for their oil changes.

After much reading & research, I've settled on Mobil 1 oil & filters. They might not be The Best but are highly regarded, widely available and at a reasonable price.

So, what are you using this year?

Edit: Mobil is offering a rebate of up to $17 on their oil & filters. Details here: 2018 National Spring Promotion - Mobil 1™ / Mobil Super™

I will never use Mobil one filters again.

I used one on my last car and got noise at start up which only happened with that filter. Changed to wix, No issues.

I have one on both my mirages due to a great special and I get a bit of noise with them on this car too. I will switch to wix. I'm betting no noise on the wix.

I've heard lots of positive comments on Wix filters. They also publish their filtration specifications, which not many filter manufacturers do.

Wix lists their 51356 & 51356XP for the 3A92 in the Mirage.

    Wix 51356
    Wix 51356XP

Mobil does this rebate in the spring and in the fall. It makes some of the best oil you can buy pretty darned cheap.

I always get my Mobil1 at Walmart, even though they are not listed on Mobil's site as a participating retailer. The rebate still works fine, and I max it out. It's about $26 for five quarts there, and with the rebate the final cost winds up being about $3 a quart.

    I use OEM filters.

Either Mobil 1 0w-20 or Castrol magnatec 0w-20 with Purolator filter. I am doing ~6k intervals but wondering if I should decrease that based on how I drive.

What do you mean? I couldn't tell how many miles you have on your Mirage by looking at your Garage or Fuel Economy Log entries.

A oil analysis would answer your question if you’re worried about your driving style increasing the need for more frequent oil changes.

I do about 10,000 miles a year mainly highway (currently at 26k). It spends a lot of time at or above 3000 rpm.

I've considered it, but having a warranty for ~7 more years makes it hard to justify. I will probably learn this one the hard way, lol.

Mobil 1 is a good quality motor oil. Depending on which formula you are working with, I think you'd be fine extending your oil change interval so long as you stick with the six month time requirement. Of course as inuvik says an oil analysis would answer your question, and they don't cost much.

I mistyped earlier - I was thinking about shortening the interval. My last one was 11 months (not normal) and 6000 miles. I guess my answer is just start changing it every 6 months regardless of mileage. Hopefully the dealer doesn't point out my 11 month change if something goes wrong.
