If I ever get any time I could disassemble mine and see how they're wired into but I think there's going to be a HUGE underlying problem, and that's the fact that there's only three tiny ass LEDS...I REALLY doubt they're running on a 12 volt line. I think the safer/less painful/less expensive option is just to do some tricky fandangling and run clean wires to a 12v switched dual LED strip (walmart has 12" strips with 18LED's for 18 bucks and all you need is a 12v power source (back wires of cigarette lighter adapter :P )
The mounting tape that comes with them SUCKS, but I'm sure that you could find alternative methods to mount them. (They're able to be "cut to size" (anyone that's ever cut these knows why I quoted it...it's not ENTIRELY cut to size, but it's close.)
I CAN confirm that they run just fine on a standard 12vrail since I've got four of them inside my computer at this VERY second and they look BEAUTIFUL (light up my entire room from within my computer case with a 300MM Mesh side and Three 3x5 acrylic windows (Rosewill Thor V2 case with modded top mesh to acrylic.)
Just a little tidbit of modder info/opinion there take it or leave it.
