when you replace a battery in a new mercedes yourself the car wil no longer start...
the computer needs to be told that the battery is replaced and you need to keep the system under power when doing so.
i think these are ways to keep cash flowing in the direction of dealers because cars these days run longer then 20 years ago.
German cars are not built for easy owner maintenance. you can't even easily replace the spark plugs. But indeed, Audi, BMW, Mercedes will not start and gives computer failure if you replace the battery without manually resetting the computer afterwards.
My manager's BMW has to be towed away because of computer fault and he can't start his engine. Stupid. I would have disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset the computer but unfortunately won't work on superior "german engineering"
