Canada: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage review (Youtube... Motormouth)

This is easily the most negative review of the car in North America. It's also one of the least professional ones I've come across. B.C.-based Zack Spencer hates the car.

How can you review an economy car and never mention its fuel economy? How can you criticize it on price and never clarify the car's starting price makes it one of the cheapest new cars available? Those are arguably the car's two biggest strengths, and they're completely ignored here.

Unfortunately, because there aren't many Mirage review youtube videos on this side of the pond, this one is going to get a lot of hits.

FYI, this reviewer appears on television, radio, and in print.

OK, I couldn't resist commenting after seeing this exchange between the reviewer and 2 other commenters:

    Ryan Langmuir
you haven't talked about the starting price and fuel economy...

    Jan Mirage
Yeah.. he didn't mention the only 2 good things about this car.

    Motormouth Canada
The starting price isn't that good compared to the Nissan Versa, which is $11,898, and the fuel economy will not be that good if you have to floor it to get anywhere...
    I replied:

OK, so it's only the 2nd or 3rd cheapest car to buy in the country instead of the first. And on fuel economy, a bit of research would show owners are generally meeting/beating the EPA ratings in the real world with this car. (No, I'm not affiliated with Mitsu in any way. I don't even own one.)

Yep. He doesn't even mention the car's main competitor here, the Chevrolet Spark.

That's a strange review. The reviewer doesn't see (doesn't know) for what major reason this car was designed for (and why it look like this).
And you're right he doesn't even know that the Versa Note has the same CVT - his preferred car.

Agreed - if he was going for humour... he missed! I can laugh at a well-written review that pokes fun at the car (the Jalopnik review is an example).

Here's where this reviewer screws up most (of several points):

So what is the compelling reason to buy this car? It has to be power, performance and handling!
Fine, fine, go for a cheap laugh. That's predictable. And forgivable ... if it's followed up with the actual compelling factors that were designed into the car. But to COMPLETELY fail to mention low cost, & good fuel economy? That's what makes "unprofessional" a fair label for this guy, I think.

    One more...

"It's not a big car, either."
Well, duh! Another ridiculous comment! When he reviewed the Versa/Note, did he say "It can't tow a travel trailer, either." Or do you say about the Ford F150, "It's not small, either."
