I'm not that particular about looks. I think the Mirage is fine.

I don't know if we're including interior, but the one thing I dislike is that the cupholders are behind the gear stick. Many modern cars are moving the gear lever higher up, more on the dash than on the center console. I kind of prefer that, but it's not a dealbreaker. I'm used to the old way, and have to shift my car into 4th to get my coffee

Alec Issigonis the man how designed and styled the mini back in the 50s. Sir Alec Issigonis once said, "Stylists are employed to make things obsolescent .. like women's clothes.. I design cars which cannot be obsolescent and there give value for money. The ability of the Mini to never look out of date with its surroundings is almost uncanny, especially since its basic shape has remained unchaged since 1959.

The Mirage was not drawn by a creative soul in an office, but in the wind-tunnel. Smart move.

I hope the new mirage will have a long life and seen to be a great design as well as style that last for many years.

I have no problem with the looks. I think it looks more "grown up" than the alto or up that it competes with here.

I just noticed the comments on the interior. I hated the piano finish on the new outlander (and the electric steering). Both of these seem to work well in the Mirage.

It's very interesting to look at the various stages of the design and how this leads to the finished article

Jamie - love that Issigonis quote. I hadn't seen that one before.

I have allways loved that quote from Issigonis. A lot of the time i just wish car companies would give there cars a much longer run before they start changing there models. It just makes no sense to and having so many extra parts that are just not needed. When i had my 1961 mini i could buy a new front pumper bar for say a 1999 model and it would fit the front or back of my 61 model evan the windscreen was still interchangable.

Talking about looks... What do you think about the sedan version of the Mirage?

I am aware of the fact these are renderings (theophiluschin), but the result is not bad at all.

Not bad. I generally like the look of hatchbacks more than sedans, but I'd drive that.
