Please let us know how the install goes and WHERE the cartridge installs.
Pad sounds like a good idea. When temps below about 10°f my CVT takes about 5 mile before it will shift into high range at low speeds. Then another few miles before it is fully warmed up.

Another -25C morning....so I broke out my Kat's 300w magnetic heater that has an extended handle duct taped to it and used it to heat the CVT oil pan as it has a 7 liter oil sump versus the 3 liter sump for the engine proper...
The mitsubishi manual warns that CVT operation may be an issue below -20C, no need to push my luck eh?

I can't get a clear pic of the location but will try to pinpoint it in words...
If you stand in front of car and look down to bottom of intake runners to the rad hose on my car I see this..

(rotate pic left 90° to get proper view.)
the Orange rubber is the end of block heater so straight in from there.
    Will weld for beer.

Thanks! Hopefully that will be enough to locate the install point. Just waiting for it to get warm enough to look at it.

The block heater dealer installed on my Mirage is Mitsubishi part# MZ314528.
This should catalogue as the block heater for the 4cyl lancer motor. This is what fits..
I plugged it in with my Kill A Watt and it runs at 375 - 380 watts.
My dealer wants $80.00 Can. For one.
That's better than the $107 my dealer quoted me, and I've had no luck finding one online too....

I would like to get a block heater too but Chicago winters are not as cold as what some of you experience. Would you suggest still getting one regardless as it is a useful tool in getting the engine warmed up on cold starts?

I would if you are planning on keeping your Mirage more than a few years as using it should prolong the engine's life and give you better fuel economy to boot.(In general the smaller the engine the more I "baby" it.)

I agree with Mr Strawboss: block heater is a good idea. Easier starting in the frigid cold, save fuel, reduce engine wear, get heat sooner. There's no downside!

I use a block heater 3 seasons of the year.
