Here's the new Skyactiv engine for the Mazda 2 , http://blog.caranddriver.com/mazda-2...mileage-boost/ . The 2 is a renamed 121 which was also the Ford Festiva of years ago . That had the 1.3 ltr. , one tough engine . We had 3 of them . The Festiva was produced in Mexico .

Mazda isn't as held back though.
The problem with the Prius C is its price, which isn't in affordable "under $15K". The problem with the Yaris - not competitive EPA MPG numbers compare to new affordable economy cars. The problem with the Mazda2 is its name. It's not a secret that Toyota sells their car because they are Toyotas. That's why Mazda to build small Toyota in Mexico for US consumption.

However, I highly hope that Mazda will not make the Next-gen Mazda2 designed for 'predominantly feminine' appeal.
