Agreed on trans fluid. Mitsubishi recommends 30k for severe service only. The early Jatco CVTs (Dodge Caliber, et al) were sealed, no way to change fluid.
Trans guy once told me if you do it regularly it's ok, but never change high mileage fluid. 200k on my 99 Ford truck factory fluid, shifts like new. I do not tow and 'baby' the shifts.

I hit 130000 today. I'm at that point where I'm wondering when my suspension is gonna feel loose but I haven't got there yet

I did my trans fluid at 30k miles. It was black.

It is perfectly ok to do a fluid change or swap but you never want to do a tranny flush.

My CVT fluid was dark too when I had it changed at 32k miles. You definitely want to keep up with the maintenance on these CVTs. When they fail, you're looking at several thousand dollars for a replacement. I was told on my Nissan Versa that a replacement CVT is $5k and it's failure prone in that car. I can think of better ways to spend $5k that I don't have.

That's true, and I should mention I was referring to advice I received on a conventional automatic transmission when I said to not change fluid in a high mileage trans. I don't know about a CVT. However....I still don't see in the manual where regular maintenance requires fluid change, only severe service. I looked at my manual several times and it's definitely not listed as regular 30k service. Was there an addendum?

Changing at 30k won't hurt a thing. As I mentioned, I doubt if the fluid fails all that rapidly, as some of the Jatco's are sealed and never require fluid change. And they seem to last well over 100k. I'll ask next time I talk to a transmission mechanic.

I've 52,000 miles on my blue Mirage. Still running like a champ. I think I'm going to change the oil in the transmission this weekend. (Manual transmission)
