Oh, that is hard. I guess I'd go with the Mobil 1 EURO 0W40 FS. I've seen the FTIR on this oil. It's a PAO/POE full synthetic and this is crazy for a shelf oil. That said it only registers about 30 for oxidation, which is enough to keep a clean motor clean but not enough to clean a dirty motor. It straddles the 30/40 viscosity with a slightly above average HTHS. Pretty standard SP add package. Should go 5K. I'd still look at least once.
Okay, I'll stop. You said JUST ONE.

Interesting thread!
Here in Europe we have a vast selection of good PAO/ester oils.
I use the following product, which costs about €/US$ 23.- incl. freight for a 4liter container, more than enough for an oil change. There are plenty of similar products at similar prices on YeePay.

Grumpy Bear (02-20-2024)
Before everyone jumps on a certain type of oil band wagon, Grumpy Bear has used this guy (The Motor Oil Geek) for oil recommendations. I have also watched some of his stuff.
There are some reservations (it may not be the best choice for everyone) stated about using Mobil 1 FS Euro 0W40 oil below -

This is what the Motor Oil Geek concludes about an oil like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (spoiler alert - he's intrigued by it) -

I'm sharing information from someone who test oils. I am not making any bold claims myself.
Side note: Someone was stuck on the terms "motor" vs "engine" recently. - Notice most call it motor oil rather than engine oil?

Eggman and Mark. I don't know how to multi-quote.
First Mark. No sir. The one Lake tested was NOT SP but SN. An older formulation. (and not all that old actually) The SP is a detergent reformulation. Less calcium, more magnesium and a lower overall TBN. In fact, it is new enough one should check the bottle markings to assure ILSAC GF6/SP. The new formulation invalidates the GDI issues he speaks of in the video.
Eggman: My second choice I am currently testing in a GM Ecotec 2.4 I-4 oil burner. Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30.
On the second OCI with it. So, too soon to tell how well it will do but the reason I'm using it is its detergency. The oil contains a novel and patented detergent not calcium or magnesium based (yes it still contains both as acid neutral and oxidation inhibitors).
The viscosity is mid spec, low ash, mid TBN. Its claim is it can clean back to new in 4 normal OCI's. That will be about 8 to 10 for this motor due to my very short OCI's. On the first run it used a measured quart in 2,250 miles. I changed at 2,500.
This second OCI it has used 5 ounces in 1,200 miles. Will that hold? Who knows. But if it does it is doing something no other shelf oil is doing. A detergent that just doesn't slow deposit formation but reverses it. Like the reason you wash cloths.
It's a good motor to test as its ring package is cleanliness finicky. It has 236K miles on it. The rings have stuck several times before and each time I bring it back from the dead with a solvent (KREEN) or an Ester. (HPL SAE40 EC). She's my test mule. I'll let ya know.
AMSOIL SS 5W30 just go on my list of Ester containing oils that will register a 30 Ox or better. No, not going to find it in Walmart.
Another Non Walmart oil made from PAO/POE is Torco SR-5.
I'd test but I'd guess 7.5K miles services would be doable.
Whatever crap I choose to pour into mine is good for 7,500 miles!
