You could change the fluid that often but there probably won't be any long term benefits for the CVT. It is very hot in Jakarta for sure so I could understand wanting to change fluid every 20k. It's definitely not going to hurt anything. Since you only had to put 2.5l in makes me wonder if your fluid level was correct to begin wth.

Due to the location of the drain bolt, which is kinda higher than the actual pan itself, i can't drain all the fluid. The idea was to try keeping the fluid in better condition. I don't want to risk any leak that might occurred if i remove the pan.

do you change the cvt fluid on a manual/stick transmission? or is this just for automatic transmissions? thanks.
The 5 speed manual uses a completely different type of fluid. And to answer your question, yes you can change the fluid in the 5 speed yourself. Many members have done it to improve the shifting. The manual transmission specifies GL-4 SAE 75w-80. A few members have reported good results switching to Redline brand GL4 fluid.

The manual transmission fluid can be changed.
According to the 2015 Warranty & Maintenance Manual, there are two service schedules listed.
Schedule 1, which can be considered severe service, recommends to 'Change manual transaxle/transmission oil' every 30,000 miles. Schedule 2, which can be considered normal service, recommends to 'Check manual transaxle/transmission oil level and condition' every 30,000 miles.
The 2015 Owner's Manual lists the fluid to be used as Mitsubishi Motors Genuine NEW MULTI GEAR OIL ECO API classification GL-4 SAE 75W-80, 1.7 qt (1.6 L).
Some forum members here have reported improvements in shifting by switching to synthetic lubricant. Whatever you choose, be sure to use GL-4 specification, as Inuvik has said.
Hope that helps.

Just changed my cvt fluid easy except I found it very hard to read the fluid level. I measured out just over 3 quarts so that's what I put back in. An tips on how to check fluid.

Does your CVT have a dipstick?
This thread discusses checking the CVT fluid level: Checking CVT oil level ??
