Can you stop the engine with the start/stop button while rolling?

Does anyone know if can use the engine start/stop button on the higher level trim to kill the engine while rolling? Or is there a safety override to keep that from happening? I would like to know if I can Engine off coast the mirage.

Yes. You can coast with the engine off.

    Either:
1 Hold the push button start for 3 seconds
2 push the start button 3 times

I feel like doing the 2nd option is the faster way to do it.

Also, if you have a 5spd, to roll start the car:
    1 put gear on neutral
2 push the start button 2x (light goes green, on to acc mode)
    3 push the clutch
    4 put in gear
5 release clutch and add gas.

    Have fun.

    3rd edit:
I usually go to Austin to watch master Pancake at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz. We should have a mini mirage meet one day.

Awesome thank you for the info! Now I know I can get an ES with push button start and still EOC. Ya once I own a mirage I would love to hang out with other Mirage owners : )

It's not safe at all to turn off the engine while coasting: no breaks assist, no electric steering assist etc.

Agree, just coast on neutral. it still makes a difference.

Correction: power assisted brakes are still functional when the engine stops. There's enough vacuum reserve for 2-3 fully assisted stops before the vacuum reserve is depleted (and you would have to restart the engine).

This is a safety feature that's been in cars forever (so you can still stop safely when the engine stalls). (Except for Maverick's other car, which isn't working properly!)

The comment about power steering is valid. Coasting with the engine off can obviously be dangerous if you don't know how the car will respond, can't handle unassisted steering, or if you deplete your brake vacuum reserve.

There are risks involved even for breathing. It's judging the risks and acting upon it that matters.

I did that for a while, but my lazy ass thinks it's too much work. I still do, sometimes, when coming to a stop light that just turned red, do EoC - especially if it's one of those lights that I know takes forever to turn green.

    Thanks for the correction, MetroMPG.
Anyway, the car with the ICE is designed to work properly only with the engine ON.

Also, I haven't tried this in a while, but I've driven some cars with electrically assisted steering will work when the key is on ACC. Doubt breaking is electric though.
