Question Anyone had electric power steering reliability issues? Anyone covert to manual?

I'm still baffled as to why this car would not have a manual steering rack but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the reliability of the electric power steering in this car?
Where is the power assist?...on the rack?...on the column?
Can the electric assist be eliminated?...or a manual rack be installed?

The electric motor is on the column inside the car. I'm sure it can be eliminated, but it may cause a check engine light depending on how its done.

As far as I know, there have been zero reliability issues with it.

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

I haven't heard any reliability issues with it either. The assist will shut down if the pump becomes overheated until it cools down. Not that it's done that on anyone but technically the FYI is there.

Nope. I haven't taken the time and there really wasn't much interest in it. So, it went on the back burner.

Just for the record: when we were replacing front springs I took time to grease top mount bearings. That alone with wider 185/60 tire had improved steering feel. That and eliminating most of body roll.

IMHO eleminating drag on different parts of steering system is in order prior to doing something to power steering unit, YMMV

I have just lost the power steering assist on mine, the icon of a steering wheel with an exclamation mark is showing on my dash.
I will pull any codes tomorrow with my Scan Gauge II , the first trouble since buying it 2 1/2 years ago...

My SGII didn't show any codes, I've called the dealer to have them look at it. I hope the 5 year basic warranty will cover this....

The dealer tested the steering system with their MUT3 and pulled a code C1513 that my SGII didn't detect.
A voltage value was out of spec in the torque sensor module, they suspected a loose connection in a wiring harness.
After disassembly & reassembly the problem went away, I was asked to "monitor the PS operation"
