    Mirage taxi

Hello all my name is taxi Dave I run 4 mirage as taxicab in the Tampa Florida area. I have run Ford's for years, but when my dealer showed me the mirage I thought is was a circus can car but reluctantly took one for the weekend that was it now we run 4 and we will get more as time goes on. I have run them for four years.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

That's an interesting story. I wouldn't think a taxi service would consider them either but now that I own one, I could see it working. It would be good to hear some of the feedback you get from your fares and drivers on the Mirage.

    Also:
Durability? What kind of repairs have you faced on your fleet?
Have you done any modifications, such as suspension?
    What kind of transmission?
What mileage do you have on them now?
    Fuel economy?

    Thanks for sharing.

I am the ultimate sceptic however it's all in the numbers we need to compete. Some people love it some hate it. I have not done any modifications, we replace brakes tires clutches change oil at 2000 miles. The mileage is mid 30's my oldest has 86k thanx for the interests eggman

It would be interesting to hear how the fleet has held up to the abuse of taxi service. Pretty tough to find any more brutal real world testing than that.

Cluthes? That must mean you are using manual transmissions. Interesting.

I too would have thought a CVT would be a easier option for a taxi, although in terms of peppy-ness with a full car, maybe the manual would be nicer.

Curious to know if you get positive negative comments on the size and/or ride comfort from passengers though.

Hopefully that was just oil at 2,000 miles, and not all 4 items.

I think you might be the first person to have the clutch replaced, do mind me asking how long the original clutch lasted and what it cost to replace? And was it at the dealer? My Mirage is my first manual transmission vehicle, and I'm just wondering how durable it is, and what it's gonna cost me down the line.

The mileage must be a thing about the Tampa area, as I get about the same mileage driving between Hudson and St. Pete 5 days a week.

Welcome, Taxi Dave! Any chance you can post a photo of the cars? I'd like to put it on the front page of the site, if you like.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the cars, Having someone running high-miles in extreme service is great information for other owners.

Also FYI there's someone running Mirages as taxis in Alabama:

Thread: Mirage taxi spotted (seen any other Mirages as commercial vehicles?)

I am also curious about the clutch mileage.
