Weird Screech When Driving Through Water?

Today was a particularly wet day where I live and I noticed an odd sound when driving through heavy water and I was wondering if anyone had an explanation. It was like a screech with vibrato. I have no idea what that is, I was guessing it was something to do with the disk brakes; I have little experience with that.

Does anybody have a more complete idea?

It's the serpentine belt that runs the alternator. You got it wet momentarily so there was some slippage

Somewhat of a design flaw when you consider the vehicle was made initially for tropical climates haha

Water hitting the inner wheel well?

Makes a terrible racket on mine, may have to apply some sound deadening

That's what I thought it was, but we have a pretty experienced consensus for the alternator serpentine belt. Is it really that easy for water to get up there though? It happened multiple times.

Serpentine belt. Although I have come across the occasional mirage that is simply scared of water.

Sure! All puddles are a threat to any car, if you don't know the depth (behold the voice of experience...) The Mirage is not the only car to suffer this problem.

Well, I wouldn't say the Mirage was designed for tropical climates. It is considered a World Car design, if I recall Mitsubishi announcements correctly.
