    DIY Homelink Garage Opener

I could not find a good place to my garage door remote, so I created my own "homelink" built in remote.

    Took my remote apart.

Here are the components I used... A momentary switch from Radio Shack, some wire, and the circuit board from the remote.

    Found a nice mounting point.

Drilled a hole and mounted the switch.

Put the parts back in the car using velcro to hold the circuit board to the airbag module.

Installed you can barely see the button, mounted high it works great.

Awesome idea. I like it! Your DIY has been added to the index.

The only way I could see that would make it better would be to wire in the 12V car power so you never have to replace the battery.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

If my remote would have been 12v and not 3v, I would have definitely done that... Almost bought the actual homelink off ebay, but the $4.00 switch was way cheaper

Thanks for adding to the DIY area, hopefully it will help others... I Also took more pics during the install.

I bought a used homelink mirror with compass on e-bay and mounted it in mine.

    How much is a homelink?

The another option would be to wire in a 3V linear voltage regulator such as this to provide power from the 12V battery. It would be pretty easy, cheap, and you never have to worry about that little coin battery again.

Good idea for the more advanced, you could connect it to the dome light circuit which is is the same area.
