Hopefully it's just the cable adjustment. I had the same symptoms happen after swapping transmissions once, but it was *immediately* apparent. Cable adjustment fixed it.
But you...
Have you ever adjusted the clutch cable?
When down shifting to 1st maybe try shifting from a higher gear like 3rd or 4th instead of 2nd then first and see if that's easier. It's not a cure but a...
Yeah Fummins is pretty much a saint in the amount of money he's save folks on here. Are those chew marks on those cords?
Also check your ground wires and straps though the broken wire is more likely to be the cause.

I had one car overcharge like that. The wiring harness that runs along the front of the engine had a broken wire where it was zip tied from factory. Might be worth a look. The one I found was in...

Few bits of advice,
the shifter linkage just "pops" off with a pry bar and be sure to...
The clutch disk is 190mm. 7.5"
It's a cute little thing.
The clutch is actually pretty wimpy in these cars. It's plenty adequate for its purpose (that of motivating a cheap economy car), but ABUSE is something that it doesn't necessarily hold up well to....
That's a first oil leak I've heard of.
Mitsubishi says a lot of things, most of them are completely retarded. My favorite still is gonna be "you need spark plugs and a throttle body cleaning....
