Time for new brakes - what to get?
I hear the wear indicators on my brakes. I only have 24,000 miles but hear all the stories about the crappy brakes that came on these. Anyway, I was looking at the lifetime warranty ceramic brakes from Autozone. They have a set for $40 and a set for like $55 that includes all the hardware, etc. The car isn't that old so the original hardware might still work but figure since this has to be ordered in, I might just get the one with everything.
Oreilly has a similar set of options for a few dollars more. Are these any better?
Also, how are are the rotors on these? Should I change them or just use the originals?
How about the rear drums? How long do they hold up?

Yeah, I thought that was pretty bad.

I know these cars are known for eating pads but thought this seemed bad. I guess they are just dirty but wanted to have new pads before I tore into it. I also didn't want to burn through my brakes. I ended up with the AutoZone premium option. I plan to just keep the pads. My GF has the same car after all so it is good to have them for one of us. She also has a few more miles so may be closer to needing them.
Here are the pics. It is funny but after viewing the pics, I now think that I have a problem. The noise I was hearing came from the driver side from what I can tell so that was the first wheel I took off. I took a photo of that side and didn't bother with the other since it looked so similar. I think I am seeing the pad material delaminating from the backing on the outer pad in the photo. I think I am going to head out with a work light and take that wheel off and get a closer look. It may also be distortion of my camera lens. It is a cell phone after all.
I think this is worth a second look based on the photo I just posted. I am really glad I took these. The pad is plenty thick but this looks wrong.
