check the cowl and where its vented, is it under the hood? If it's anything like the fiesta snow will build up under the wipers and then melt and get down inside your blower motor and it gets frozen there before it gets circulated and it will lock up your blower motor. They have now tried to seal that area out in the newer design while still allowing airflow. You may want to fabricate a barrior or a filter if this is the cause.
I think it had to be ice or something in it, the sound went away the next day and has not returned.
