CVT and RPMs Question

I have been wondering about freeway speed RPMs in CVT-equipped Mirages... (yeah...I've got plenty of time on my hands tonight)... :D

The CVT "settles down" to around 2000rpms at 60-65mph cruise, right?

What if you go 70/80/90mph on a flat surface? What RPMs is a CVT-equipped Mirage turning at those speeds?

I drove from South Florida to Boston last month and I was doing 75-77 on cruise control @ 2.5K to 2.6K RPM with the A/C on.
One thing I noticed was that the ECO light goes off permanently ones you pass the 76-77 MPH mark...

My total fuel cost (round trip) was $130.00 for almost 3000 miles. :p

The light goes off only if the engine is pulling hard..
I've had the light stay on at over 80 mph

It sounds like no matter how fast you are going (within reason), the CVT will generally allow the engine to run below 3000 RPMs.

I can't imagine driving my 5-speed at 80mph. My car has never goes more than 60mph unless I have to pass someone (which is rare)...lol. It's just a mental thing for me with the RPMs. :eek:

When my tires were new my cvt ran about 2200rpm @70mph... now, with 65000km on em the rpm runs about 2350 at the same speed.
Gonna put new tires on shortly 175/65R14 or 165/70R14.
Both of these are slightly taller than stock which should bring rpm down near 2000 again. (Unless the extra 2 - 21/2 lbs per tire fouls the numbers).

I wonder if the speedometer and the engine RPM will know the difference?

Used to be the same way, not anymore. 75 all day long without care. Really hurts mpg spinning 4k rpm but whatever still get over 50 if your quick with the clutch. don't even think about engine wear anymore, either.

I figure it'll break when it wants to, and if she starts too smoke I'll tell people its a two stroke lol I already tell people its pull start so... ha

You mean 2500-2600rpm. I too noticed the eco light goes off when I surpass 75mph. At that point i get less than 40mpg, so I try not to exceed 65-70mph. The little motor is working too hard at those higher speeds.

The manual would be at 5,500 rpm at 180 km/hr (111.8 mph)
