Gear ratios: 2014 Mirage transmissions, 5-spd manual F5MDB & CVT (speed vs RPM chart)

The car's brochure in many countries has detailed vehicle specs. This info is taken from the Malaysian brochure, and confirmed by Mitsubishi USA (Sept 12/13) as the ratios for the US car as well, but not Europe (see below):

I added the image above for the manual trans. It shows minimum and maximum speed in each gear. It will also tell you what rpm you'll be at for a given speed.

Going to post one in km/h too?

What's interesting is we've got two different engines, but apparently just one set of manual transmission ratios. (Or maybe we just don't have all the information yet.)

Because if it's just one transmission for both engines, it has to be a compromise that sacrifices efficiency and/or "performance" one way or the other.

I can tell you already: I haven't even driven one yet, but I wish Mitsu had made 5th gear taller, to lower cruising engine RPM for better economy. If I needed more power to pass or climb, I would downshift! But if I'm in top gear, I want the best economy. Carmakers seem to be erring on the side of designing in high RPM cruising - so drivers don't ever need to downshift. If I didn't want to shift, I'd buy the automatic!

Might be able to swap the diff ratio from the cvt(3.757) into the manual(4.055) That would make the ratios all a little taller in the manual.

Even still with the higher ratios its really getting some impressive fuel economy ratings.

While reviewing the UK specifications for the Mirage, I noticed that they get a different 5 speed manual transmission than the Malaysian specifications show. All of the ratios have matched that I have seen until this UK info. The UK transmission is geared taller. At 100 kmh (60 mph) you're looking at a little over 200 rpm lower with the UK transmission, 2660 vs 2880 rpm.

This now gives the possibility of swapping final drive ratios to tweak your ratios. If you want faster acceleration you would ideally opt for the UK tranny with Malaysian/Australian final drive, and vise versa if you wanted better fuel economy.

Is the UK gearing difference found on both the 1.0L and 1.2L 5-speed cars?

In other words: same transmission with both engines?

Yep, the UK uses the same 5spd for the 1.0L and 1.2L engines.

Well, if the U.K./Euro versions of the car have all the aerodynamic add-ons, then it makes sense they could run a numerically lower final drive for less engine RPM for a given road speed (due to lower engine load).

At least for the upper gears. Though it doesn't appear they're also adjusting the lower gears, so acceleration might suffer a bit.
