I'd pick the smaller if turbo charged. I drive too far on too many hills, and the 1.2 already gets me annoyed when I'm in 3rd screaming along to not lose speed at full throttle.

Now this old thread has been bumped, I'll put in my two cents.
The long-term fuel consumption with my 1.0L 3A90 is still 4.3L/100km which is close to 55mpg American, nothing has changed over the years.
In a comparison between the 1.0L and 1.2L you would quickly notice one really big difference: The 1.0 has definitely very much less power at low revs than the 1.2L. You also need to switch gears much more often in hilly districts.
Damn I didnt realize this was 3 years old.
My circa '96 Geo Metro 4-door hatchback had a 1-Liter motor. It regularly got 55mpg, without my even trying, no matter how I drove or how fast I drove--except in summer when I put the AC on. Then the MPGs plunged to 49.
I'd go for a 1-Liter in my 2015 Mirage in a heartbeat. Does somebody want to swap one in for free. You can have the nice 1.2-Liter now in it.
I would go for the 1.0L I had a 92 metro with a 1.0L and she was a blast to drive even when hammering the gas again as stated an intake and exhaust would take care of the hp deficit. Now that you mention enfine swap why not get an xfi motor and swap it. Agreed the engine is older but those G10's were bullet proff.
Id be too nervous with passengers and luggage when Im ubering. I already get comments going up hills with the 1.2 lol. I had a business man in the back seat complaining he cant hear his phone call on the highway lol. I one starred him.
If I lived and drove where you do, I would prefer the 1.2L, too! A/C zaps a lot of power on these small cars, and you use A/C way more than someone like me. If you're hauling multiple adults or grown children, the little extra power is worth it.
I would buy a 1.0 L Mirage at this stage of my life. It's just basic transportation to me.
