Reading this old post, I see the CVT gets 2 roller cams, but the manual got intake only. Anyone have any idea what the rationale for that would be? Seems like it would be more cost effective to build the engines the same.

I was doubting that was a Mitsubishi document. I just ignored that. Maybe it's true. But I've been under the assumption that the manuals have the same double roller cams as the CVT.

But if not, it's because the CVTs need all the help they can get!

    VERY INTERESTING...
I cannot look up 2021 Mirage camshafts yet but for 2020 they show manuals using different. Many manual trans cars have different lobe profiles than auto cars from the factory, however that document saying only auto cars got the rollers is odd. One would think there would be an output difference. I guess I wouldn't mind if I didn't have rollers... less moving parts, but less friction usually over a slider type cam should increase longevity.
I would consider a swap if I got more power, mileage, or longevity.

Back in the "olden days" of 1950 onward the engines for the slushy automatics were rated higher horsepower than for manual shift cars. So many schemes in the 50's and 60's for auto transmissions!
Chrysler had some kind of clutch with pedal and a mysterious gear setup I never understood.
GM had two-speed auto trans that ate pumps.
GM had two-speed auto trans for buses with very low first anf very high second and the shift from 1 to 2 jerked the bus sharply. Most had Detroit Diesel 2-stokes 6-71 that were gutless but very noisy.
Don't know that Ford had anything but a three-speed auto that seemed pretty good (late 50 early 60).
