Malaysia: Attrage (Mirage G4 sedan) review - "The Eco-Sedan" (thesundaily.my)

A breath of fresh air as far as these reviews go, after a series of negative Mirage reviews out of the U.S. and Canada.

This one evaluates the car based on its design goals, and finds Mitsubishi has carved out a niche in the small sedan market as a good option for sedan buyers concerned about economics. The reviewer is willing to forgive "mediocre" performance as a tradeoff for excellent efficiency.

And you've got to laugh at the comment on styling: "we could not ignore how many ladies have called it 'cute'."

    Pros:

    - significantly light weight, good aerodynamics
    - excellent fuel economy rating, achievable driving at moderate speeds
    - roomy for its size
    - styling
    - safety features
    - well equipped for the price

    Cons:

    - mediocre performance is "sufficient"
    - vague steering feel
    - hard plastics in interior
    - soft suspension/body roll
    - wind/road noise at higher speeds (>110 km/h)

    Overall:

...the only other way for you to economise on your daily fuel costs is to either downsize to an A-segment car, or to simply downsize even further by hopping on to a motorcycle instead. With what is available in the market, the Attrage stands as the only choice if you seek a frugal compact four-door sedan.

Road, wind, and engine noise is definitely worse on my 09 Kia Rio.

Here's a thought: if reviewers are going to comment on noise, they should have to back up their comments with metered readings that can be compared to other cars. Removes the subjectivity.

I totally agree with you. This discussion about the noise is getting quite boring. I mean you seriously expect Mercedes standard noise level in a car which cost only 1/10th of it?

Also, these 165-65 tires help a lot with road noise.

The difference between the 165-65 and 205-55 tires were like riding on air (165) and riding on a wooden log (205).

However, with the firm ride comes excellent cornering abilities.

Amen, hallelujah brother. My car's a hit with the ladies also ("cute" is the right word).

Men like "aggressively" styled cars because they think it'll impress the ladies, but most of the time it ends up impressing... other men.
