Talking Brand X 240 amp alternator for 2014 Mirage DE

I plan to install this evening and I will be updating here about any issues with instillation or performance. So far it looks great(I know I should have had it powder coated but didn’t). Instructions seem generic but have all required information needed. I did also get the external voltage potentiometer but that will be installed at a later date when I add a lithium battery bank.

Install is very simple if you changed an alternator before then it won’t be difficult. Brand X’s instructions mentions replacing the belt as the pulley is definitely smaller I would agree with them as I thought I had enough room to tighten the belt and I am at the end of the adjustment. I cranked up my stereo to see if there was any noticeable differences and now my lights don’t dim and my voltage strays steadier under heavy loads. I will see how much it affects my gas mileage but may take a few weeks to get good averages.

Well thank you for the reminder *♂️. I honestly forgot about till I seen this comment but it is now ordered. Lol. So far it’s been great though my headlights don’t dim at all. Gas mileage has only been slightly affected went from 38mpg with ac on to 35-36 mpg.

I ordered an OEM replacement which shows it’s out for delivery so should put it on today or tomorrow.

I replaced the belt with this one from good year. It definitely needs to be a few inches shorter. I haven’t found the correct part number yet but I will update if I do find it.

Well I learned something from a coworker the last 4 digits on a belts part number is actually itÂ’s length, so the original was a 0485 I bought a 0460 thinking 2.5 inches would be enough but I was wrong it was to short so I am ordering a 475 and see if 1 inch shorter will be the right one

Whatever length belt you buy, it's a 6PK sort, meaning six ribs. Dunno if that is strong enough to pull a 240A alternator indefinitely. A belt size 6PK1240 is standard for our cars with A/C. It looks like your new one has a different diameter pulley and therefore needs a shorter belt.

If the engine should make terrible noises in idle and the belt should flutter, you may need to replace the original alternator pully with an OAP. These are three cylinder cars after all.

What's an OAP and how to replace it? See:
