    2017 Mirage P0300. Engine toast

I guess I'll finally replace an engine on one of the fleet cars. Driver complained of shaking like they thought the transmission was gonna crap out. Only code I was able to pull was a random missfire. It's got a slight miss at idle, not enough to flash the cel though. I did an injector kill test and though the engine ran rough as each injector was shut off, it didn't change an awful lot when the #2 cylinder was shut off. So wth, might as well do a compression test. The thing has 400,000kms on it and I don't believe it's been pampered for any of those miles.

    Cylinder 1: 168psi YAY!!!
    Cylinder 2: 62psi not yay...
    Cylinder 3: 150psi meh...

I'll probably take it for a rip before tearing it's heart out to make sure the cvt is still ok. I had the pan off it not too long ago and it was clean(ish) so I'll probably just replace the engine and see how long that cvt holds together.

Interesting info. Keep us updated. I don't think we need to know every stinking detail, but some info along the way would be interesting.

Do you think it is a valve issue, piston ring issue, other, that's causing the loss of compression?

I'm really not sure if it's top or bottom-end issue. I'll do a wet test later today and see how that goes.

Going to fix it or just swap another? I've never done any engine work myself and would be interested in learning.

I'm just gonna replace the entire engine.

I wonder how long it may go IF you just replaced the rings... Feel like an experiment?

If I had the time and didn't have a ton of engines laying around I'd give it a try. I'll keep this one to the side one I get it swapped out and figure out what I'm gonna do with it. At a minimum, I'll eventually do a tear-down and see how the bearings and cylinders look.

I'll try to remember to do some compression tests on a few other higher-mileage cars. I have another 2017 with 442k km(275k miles) coming in later today. The highest is a 2015 with 480something. It's a little clacky and seems down on power but still moves.

I should update this one. The transmission started acting up about a year after replacing the engine(@404k km). Could have possibly replaced the valve body and kept going but less downtime is preferred so I just replaced the entire cvt last June @448k kms.
