So let's get a real free market and order right from the manufacturers.

We would if they'd let us. The use their sales front for legitimate reasons.

I'd love to own one of these, reminds me of the old school 90s AWD Toyota Corolla hatchback rally cars from Gran Turismo i use to play as a kid.

Even if i could afford this, it'd cost me an arm and a leg in today's economy! I assume the core time level is best as a daily driver and the mid/high trims are better suited for the track.

What's the city/hwy/combined MPGs on something like this? I'm not too familiar with this inline three specs.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeit, the base CVT Corolla OTD prices I got on the phone a few months back were well over $25k. The MSRP they claim of $19800 is total bs. No dealer is honoring that price unless its a rare unicorn manual transmission that they listed to get you on the lot and then the car in the ad mysteriously disappears when you get there.

Plus, out of the 8 dealers I talked to, only ONE would give me a OTD price on the phone. It was always "Just come in. I don't have time to talk to you." The dealers got buyers by the short and curlies right now. I'm not even sure these salesmen even have to sale anything anymore. They just handle buyers coming in with hat in hand and promising them a new car if they can wait 60 days.

I don't like it when they have me by the short and curlies.

I am with you usually about Toyota. Its reputation is well earned and it's always interesting to hear about your past experiences working with them vs Hyundai. However, I think getting rid of the Yaris and axing their economy division, Scion, is going to bite them in the azz in the future.

I think we can all agree here, that the numbers show millennials simply don't have the purchasing power their parents did back in the 80s and 90s, not even close. Toyota will eventually have less and less people that can afford a hybrid RAV4 or a Tundra. I hope one of the executives notices this and thinks to themselves "Why did we get rid of all our affordable vehicles? 40% of Americans can't afford our cheapest car now and that % is only going to continue to grow. What can we do to address this?"

Would it really be financially unfeasible at this point, for Toyota to have a TRULY entry level vehicle in their lineup? KIA and Hyundai can certainly afford it. Why not Toyota? I think its a bad call on their part. Man, what I would give for Mitsubishi to license out the old Yaris and slap their badge on it like Pontiac did with the Toyota Matrix. That was probably the most reliable vehicle Pontiac ever put their name on lol.

This study is 5 years old by the way, I can't imagine the numbers getting better if it was done today.
