Also, my transmission is leaking on top. See photo. I’m hoping this isn’t terrible

It's hard to make anything out in the pic you posted. There's really only the shifter seal or a couple of speed sensors that could actually be leaking that high up. I've never seen either leak before. Otherwise, the only other leak I can think of would be the actual case itself.
The only cvt leaks that I have ran into were axle seals that died of natural causes and the oil pan and cartridge filter o-ring that were caused by myself.
I'd clean all the oil off and go from there. Is it possible someone was just extremely sloppy during oil changes(engine or cvt)?

This may be a better pic.. it’s kinda behind the trans dipstick. I’m betting the CVT fluid has never been changed. And the battery is also starting to go. This car was a repo, you know they probably can’t afford maintenance if they can’t afford the car…

The 2009 year model Toyota Matrix never needs any maintenance whatsoever. It's really quite the phenomenon! Just ask, The Warden, The Beast, The Gift from (Heaven/Hell), my ahem ... wife.

I’d like to add, the vehicle is so lightweight that I was able to flip it back over myself! (Yes, I’m full of dad jokes!)

I've always been partial to coupes and sedans. That Gee-Foe looks good, to me.

Make sure it's not over full... Spray some degreaser down there, let it sit as per the instructions & wash it off with a garden hose (not a pressure washer) & see if it returns. You may get lucky??? Is it leaving spots on the driveway???
I didn't know what to do, so I didn't do anything

If your leaking cvt fluid you need to take it into a trans specialist. Who knows how much fluid you've lost?
