    Mitsubishi Europe talks about Space Star's (uncertain) future in Europe

    Quoting this nice article https://europe.autonews.com/automake...european-sales directly:

    The company will continue to sell the Eclipse Cross compact SUV, as well as the Mirage/Space Star budget small car alongside the two Renault-based models, Krol said.
    The future of the Mirage will depend on whether Mitsubishi decides to spend money to homologate the budget car to comply with the GSR2 (general safety regulations) legislation mandatory for all cars sold in the EU from July 2024.
    Not so sure Mitsu is going to spend that money, but we'll see.

    The very fact that the Mirage has an overall smaller carbon foot print than Prius should keep it within EU standards IMO. Mitsu having to further change the Mirage to conform is ridiculous.

    GSR2 is abour safety regulations, and has nothing to do with carbon foot print.

    I understand that but are Vespas under the same regulations? My point being if the car is very eco friendly and has pretty good safety ratings, than it should be given a pass. Just my opinion however.

    American safety testing is very concise. What is the EU further testing in the name of greater safety? If safety is paramount, over affordability/eco-friendly, then why are motorcycles acceptable? It's just confusing to me and this is coming from someone who highly respects the European model of governance and societal management.

    Hello Firends,

    The end of Space Star / Mirage in Europe approches but not for 2023 for sure because I saw the new-coming 2023 models in the Mitsubishi Store. We will see if Mirage will handle the GSR2...a miracle...

    Have a nice day.

    It's not about testing, but about new regulations. Somewhere I found this list:
    new motor vehicles shall be equipped with the following advanced vehicle systems:
    • intelligent speed assistance;
    • alcohol interlock installation facilitation;
    • driver drowsiness and attention warning;
    • advanced driver distraction warning;
    • emergency stop signal;
    • reversing detection;
    • event data recorder.
    But don't ask me what it all means.

    The Mirage already has an Event Data Recorder - at least in North America.

    Yes but its voluntary in the USA, I thought all modern cars with an airbag computer had an EDR. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_data_recorder
