    So, this was new

Never had this happen in any car before. Been pushing the G4 hard, between work and mom in the hospital. Took off ramp to go home tonight and smelled hot oil. Said to myself "someone's burning oil", but not a beater in sight. Curious.
I get home and pop the hood. My oil fill cap had loosened and spun out, but luckily still in the engine compartment. Valve cover, alternator, abs unit and washer reservoir are covered in oil. Checked dipstick, looks like I lost around 1/2 quart. No lights, no codes, just the smell of hot oil.
I will be cranking that cap down extra tight from now. Just to be sure.

Huh... Well, at least you only lost 1/2 quart. No risk of damage. But probably a mess. Makes me wanna check my 710 cap.

Weird, I’ve never had that happen. I have left the cap on the rad support a on a few other vehicles a time or two.

Some vehicles have a shield right up under the 710 cap to catch as much oil sling as possible if the cap is not there. Some don't. I don't. Some don't need it because their 710 cap is in a place that is not in the direct path of oil being slung. I don't know if the Mirage has such a shield or not, I never paid attention.

Sending out good energy about your Mom Atomic! I hope she gets well. As far as the G4, when it rains it pours it seems like at times. Big hug brother!

Much appreciated. She had a carotid stent placed, then had a small stroke post-procedure. Loss of function in right leg and arm, but some has returned 3 days post. Got some rehab ahead of her, but glad it wasn't worse.
I topped off the G4 and she's right as rain, dependable as ever.

Atherosclerosis? Was there plaque build up? I work with veins only, not qualified enough for arteries. My biggest challenge is rolling or schelorsed veins at work, that and the high % of obese patients with deep veins. I'm happy to hear your mother is in full recovery. It blows my mind how delicate the carotid is. The only major artery not protected by bone or a thick layer of fat, just 6 cm of skin. I don't know what's worse, that or the way our knees were designed! Lol. Love ya man, keep fighting.

Sorry to hear about your mom's health issues, but glad to hear she's getting good care! I pray & hope she has a full recovery!

Those 3 cylinder engines do vibrate a lot. I crank my cap on pretty hard. I need a Cresent wrench to remove it sometimes. It's also why I make sure my oil filter is a bit snugger than normal on my Mirage. Sounds like you caught it in time before any major harm was done.

Oh yeah. 2 days prior she what was likely a TIA episode, and CT showed 80% blockage of left carotid. She is 81, so pretty much any procedures are tenuous at this point. Yeah, I don't know how you find veins on the the obese; big salute to you for that. That tourniquet can only do so much!

Thanks, Mark. I was really fortunate: the oil hadn't gone down too far AND the cap somehow stayed in the engine bay! I've got the 5 speed, so when I'm hustling I'm consistently over 4k on the tach for extended periods.
