I haven't seen it in my Mirage but had a similar condition in my Honda Goldwing motorcycle. It has an automotive style alternator and when the bike got up around 120k miles it was intermittently not charging the battery. One day it would be fine then the next day nothing then the next hour fine, etc., etc. I took the alternator out and apart and the brushes were down to almost nothing.
