I have heard of someone that received a good payout offer right off the bat. A certain part was replaced before the appraiser saw the car....

insurance paid out what i owed minus deductible ($16,500), My gap insurance will cover the rest. Ruled other driver at fault, Other drivers trying to object that ruling but my agent says they don't really have anything to go on (they are also with my insurance company) They made an un protected left with no light on my yellow light and didn't yield to oncoming traffic. I turned around and bought a 66k mile 1996 Mercury Grand Marquise for $3750, Clean and everything works

Your Marquis is incredible. Clean, no rust? How can that be in Michigan, don't you have tons of salt and calcium on the roads?
Plus you just put thou$ands in your bank account.

I had Panther platform cars (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis) as my daily drivers for 10+ years. If there's a car out there that fits the "bullet-proof" description, it's one of these things.
Here's my 2000 Crown Vic when I traded it in during "Cash for Clunkers" back in 2009 (if anyone remembers that program). It had 214,000 miles and was still running/looking great. The book value on it was about $1500. But US taxpayers paid $4500 for it as part of Cash for Clunkers.

I'm jealous. I love old cars, big cars, sedans and coupes. So you've hit a nerve with me.
MODS - Please remove MrMPG from the forums. He is a son-of-youknowwhat, doesn't own a Mirage, and his car is the antipode of his name. Otherwise he'll need to change his user name to MrNOGOODMPG.
But seriously though, that car is a heckuva find. I hear they have some problems, but they're usually nothing huge and are otherwise fairly robust.

I think you've got dain brammage. I remember that program well. I'm not sure any of my vehicles at that time would have qualified (perhaps my 2000 Dodge Ram, or my 1993 Mazda RX-7). But there's no way in he11 I would have let them have any of my cars. Nor would I have let go of a Crown Vic as nice as that one.
