Engine break in period: this is a real thing

With each trip I take (and I've had to go from Indiana to Ohio a lot to take care of family issues), I think "this will be the trip where I get slightly less gas mileage than before." Nope!

Yes, the engine break-in period everyone talks about: it is a real thing. I'm at approximately 1800 miles driven now.

You will find that as we change from winter blended fuel to summer blend...and temperatures go up...that your fuel mileage will continue to go up as well.

I agree with Top Fuel. My parents live 4 hours away. Winter trips average around 42-43 mpg, and summer trips average around 45-47 mpg with my 5-speed manual.

Personally, I think somewhat worn tires(doesn't matter what type or brand) help, too!

Just wait, you can expect this to improve further. Temperature makes a difference. Also, watch your speed and be sure to air up your tires and you'll see even bigger improvements in fuel economy.

Try running 42-45psi in your tires or more if you're willing. I've had my factory Dunlop Enasaves up to 50 psi regularly. Try and find a setting you're comfortable with.

Hope everything works out with your family. Good thing you are able to help.

Even with wide ish winter tires running 18psi or lower (don't ask) I was getting 40 ish mpg during winter conditions.
Weird thing is I got 65mpg one summer night in 2021. It was a leisurely drive on secondary roads. Both my scangauge and my dash showed 24.x km/l. I was shocked!
