Dang Johnny - You nailed it in your original post. If a root cause were determined, I wonder what it would be. The root cause being why did that spring either break and come out of position, or just come out of position.

On edit: I forgot your car is blue. That spring probably displaced due to having way more power than the clutch was rated for.

The entire job took 6 hours. Not bad at all. The quality suums to be good on this clutch from Amazon. Working great so far.

So for a shade tree joe doing this job he could charge $600 ($100/hr) + materials and the client still gets a great deal for under $1000. A clutch should last forever if driven PROPERY.

I disagree with this statement. It's a consumable. Even if the person shifts at under 2k RPM every time, the clutch will still wear and eventually need to be replaced. Whether it's at 400k miles, or 999k miles, sooner or later, it will have to be replaced.

The rpm shift point doesn't matter. It's how / the process in which it is shifted. Otherwise, I agree with both of you to a point. While I agree it won't last forever, the term forever to me in this case means, from new until the 1st owner, who knows how to properly use a clutch, sells the car.

Yet, that's not always true either. I feel I know how to use a clutch. But my Cummins Ram clutch done got busted at about 170k miles or so. It was the pilot bearing that busted. The clutch itself was slipping (maybe that contributed to pilot bushing wear, dunno) but was slipping due to the power mods I did. Perhaps that pilot bearing would not have busted if it weren't for the added power. But I don't see how a pilot bearing is affected by slippage or power, but I'm no expert.
