I didn't know Brakleen was 90% acetone. That can be bought on its own, right? Isn't that the main component of nail polish remover?

It was, they now use a derivative because too many Beavis and Butthead teens were huffing acetone in the 90's and quite seriously melting their brains. It WAS available by the jug in Home Depot.

AS for WD40, don't buy the bs hype. there are certain volatile organic compounds that make up a small part of WD40. Those compounds are being phased out by WD40 has pledged to substitute equally effective compounds.

eta: I bought several cans of brake cleaner from Princess Auto this summer, AFAIK it's just acetone. I'll double check
