Mirage G4 sedan confirmed for Australia: available July 2014

(Mirage G4: North American debut - Mitsubishi photo)

Motoring.com.au is reporting the Mirage sedan (and it will be called Mirage, not Attrage) is going on sale in Australia in a couple of months.

    Highlights:

    • 1.2L with either CVT or 5-speed manual
    • same 3-trim packaging as the hatch
    • will probably be a bit more expensive than the hatchback
    • Mitsu says "It is quieter and smoother and it has much better response."
    • 90% of mini-car sales in Australia are hatchbacks
    • will be up against the more expensive Honda City sedan, which will also launch around the same time

Full article (see also the discussion going on in the comments): http://www.motoring.com.au/news/smal...dan-rush-42477

Should be interesting to see what happens with the G4, considering how well Mirage has been selling in Australia.

It's probably a good bet the sedan is following a similar roll-out sequence that the hatchback had, which means New Zealand next, then possibly Europe, and lastly the Americas.

We haven't heard anything from Mitsu since the G4 made its North American debut to gather consumer feedback on offering it over here.

"It is actually 30 kilograms heavier than the hatch, but drives much better. Which is a real positive. It is quieter and smoother and it has much better response.

"Their engineering guys have done a great job mating the engine to the CVT transmission, and it's an exceptional handling car."
Hope this quote from the article is correct.

I was also initially apprehensive over the weight difference between the hatchback and the sedan, but I was assured that the difference was negligible, since Mitsubishi promises the same fuel consumption figures.

The G4/Attrage has the same engine as the Mirage here in Thailand and is about 5% more expensive.

I have a feeling that's more marketing-speak than anything. I suspect the sedan will still not win over the Top Gear type of people.
