    MIVEC kick in

    Dear all,

i would like to understand more about our engine behavior, well typically the 3A92 on most of the cars here. The question is how does the mivec on our engine works? It changes the cam intake profiling or lift?

Really appreciate if someone could clarify.

Well if there is a thread already discussing this, admin may send me there and have this thread close.

    Thank you everyone.

    Thank you Alex,

erm, but my point is we are having the 3 cylinder ones, and at which RPM does it kick in, base on a friend, he said mivec kicks in according to engine load which i have no reference to make to. And the specific cam timing that changed from normal to with mivec.

MIVEC in the 1.0 & 1.2L engines in the Mirage have continuously variable valve adjustment on the intake side. There is no specific "kick in" point like on some older MIVEC engines, or like Honda's V-TEC. The older style MIVEC switched cam profiles at a certain RPM and the driver could feel a pronounced change in the engine.

Not so in the Mirage, because it's always adjusting to the driver's demands.

Only reason you can hear it kick in, is in the lancers, they have the dual profile mivec, on the exhaust and camshaft. The mirage only has it on the intake side.
Also as MetroMPG said, it is always adjusting itself.

If you hard accelerate on Mirage, you will feel at some point it has more power. You know that the max HP you get is at 6000 rpm on this car, right? Crazy!! I shifted at 5.600 rpm at most, never brought this car to 6000 rpm

You need to work on your shifting skills. I haven't bounced off the rev limiter since a few days after I bought the car. I usually give the car a hard 1st or 2nd gear shift once a week. I usually shift at 4k or less most of the time.
